Glad You Asked, Episode #7: Managing Passwords

In this episode, Steve addresses the best way for any organization to manage a large number of User IDs and Passwords.

Program notes:

Use whatever is built into your agency management system.

  • Transformation Station – Applied Systems
  • TransactNow – Vertafore platforms

But, this is primarily for insurance company websites.
Now what about all of the other UIDs and PWs you have to manage?
Other programs: rating programs, replacement cost estimators, Big I Market site.

What people do now

  • Written down, Excel or Word Documents
  • Use a single Sign-on Solution (SSO)
  • RoboForm
  • LastPass

We are beta testing a password manager, LastPass, and have found it very useful.  However, it looks like it doesn’t like Sagitta very well.  Sagitta users who are beta testing are often getting an error message, “Internet Explorer has stopped working.”  Also, LastPass, for us at least, really doesn’t get along well with eForms.  Can anyone give me some insight into this issue?

Error message may have another source, which is a fairly recent Windows update that was pushed a few months ago.  Vertafore engineers in Tampa have rolled this back for us with some success with eliminating the error message, but, not, completely.
